This was a fun project to work on in collaboration with a great artist and even greater friend of mine. He came to me asking for some visuals and so we started cracking.
Whole project took roughly 2 weeks of work. Could've taken less if, maybe, I had relied on the render network for the final render.
The main piece was the marble bust, it had to be of his face, so I used Blender and an addon called facebuilder from keentools and exported it out to houdini. From there on, I had to give it body, an arm, and something to hold on. I took those from Three D scans, amazing sculptures totally free to use, highly recommend!
The tears were quick and easy, once I knew to go with drawing curves and carving them, because at first I tried doing them with flip and some mask solvers. It looked nice and realistic, the setup was also super simple but it wasn't quite there, we wanted it to be more paint like so curves helped a ton.
Last piece was vellum petals, very easy setup to make them fluter and have them grab on once they get close to the models.
After that, we need to render it, so I took everything to Cinema 4D, added some scenery and florishes and rendered it with Octane.
Please take a look at the song, it sounds great and he deserves all the love!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GAHJvaVrMo
